There is a difference between perfume that is cheap in the sense that it is inexpensive, and perfume that smells 'cheap' in the sense of it being tacky, lacking originality or of poor quality. Cheap perfume can be found without compromising on quality, if the buyer is willing to take some time to wisely shop around.

It can be a case of 'buyer beware' when looking for cheap perfume. Never buy from a random stranger, a car boot, a street corner or from a pub. Unlicensed vendors might be selling an inferior or bootleg product that will only disappoint.

High street retailers and secure online retailers should be your only port of call when searching for new perfume. There are plenty of bargains to be found online, and web retailers often sell designer perfumes at a large discount, by offering unopened demonstration bottles.

The choice of perfumes on the market can be quite bewildering. All kinds of celebrities including models, rappers, singers, actors, reality TV stars, sportspeople -,and even footballers' wives,- have scents available to buy.

It has become one of the business decisions that many celebrities take, when expanding their empire beyond the original talent that made them famous. As with the designer fashion names that grace the shelves, the marketing people use a celeb's name to imply a perfume with glamour, taste and style.

The same fragrance might smell differently, and vary in duration, from one person to the next. This is due to the fact that people all have slightly different skin from each other, due to their unique body chemistry. Skin might be naturally dry or oily, and hormones, medications, diet, stress levels and even the environment can all have an effect. Those with sensitive skin should consider wearing the fragrance on their clothes instead.

Perfumes also change on a person during the time they wear it. This happens because a fragrance evolves across three separate stages, which reveal themselves over a period of time.

To begin with, we have the top note, which reveals the early lighter side to the aroma, and which lasts for around eight to fifteen minutes. Next is the middle note, which emits constantly throughout the fragrance's time on a person, and fully emerges after the top note's duration. Finally, the base note develops and reveals the woody notes, which become more noticeable when the scent has rested on the skin for some time.

There are two methods through which a perfume can be applied: spray or splash. Sprays are considered to be the optimum way of applying a scent, as they can be applied anywhere easily, including directly onto clothes. However, they do have a minimal amount of wastage, as some of the scent is naturally lost into the environment around the sprayer. Eau de toilette and eau de parfum only ever come supplied as a spray.

Splash bottles are a more versatile and economical method, as the perfume can be added to steam-iron water and then impregnated into clothes - and as much or as little as desired can be directly applied to the skin. Splash bottles might not be the best option for the clumsy, or those with curious children.

Many a splash bottle has been disposed of onto a carpet, a bed or down a bathroom sink!

With all the advertising and marketing campaigns for perfumes you see today on the media, people have come to consider expensive perfume as a vital part of the glamour and the glitz of Hollywood. This might not necessarily be true but this is exactly the belief that most perfume brands have encouraged.

Many are of the opinion that expensive perfume is priced high quite unfairly and that the high price does not actually reflect high costs of production. This is actually not true in some if not most cases. The packaging and the components necessary for manufacturing expensive perfume tend to be very expensive. Some ingredients required for the production of these perfumes are extremely rare and thus tend to be priced very high. For example sandalwood which is used in manufacturing perfume is very expensive and available only in very limited quantities. Perfume bottles tend to be works of art themselves and these bottles are often even handmade and imported from countries like Egypt. There are firms which specialize in manufacturing bottles used by expensive perfume brands.

Why would people hesitate to spend on a thing like vacation but not on a thing like expensive perfume? This is probably a somewhat tough question to answer. Maybe the beauty or the stunning elegance of magnificent perfume bottles is enough of a temptation to buy such perfume. Don't forget also that such perfume is ideal for occasions and some even tend to use them on a daily basis.

Expensive perfume is not produced in large quantities and this is one reason for the perfumes beings so costly. Though of course every industry carries the scars of the recession, until the beginning of the recession perfume manufactures were experiencing very good times. In 2004 it has been estimated that the sales of the fragrance industry exceeded $2.8 within the country alone and this is an obvious indication that shows how lucrative expensive perfume dealing could be.

The fragrance industry has been one where even new comers have the potential to make huge profits within a not-so-long time period. This is probably because especially women are very eager to try out new expensive perfume whenever possible. However cost of buying expensive perfume might not be so huge all the time and there are ways to reduce the expenses involved.

Choosing perfumes which do not have exorbitantly priced packaging and purchasing smaller perfume bottles if you do not happen to be a regular user are some steps that could reduce the expenses you incur on expensive perfume.

Brand Name Perfume - Maybe Expensive But Worth It ?

There are so many brand name perfume options on the market today and if you are anything like myself then you will love most of them but cannot always afford to purchase them. Many of us will rely on our friends and family to buy perfumes like these for our birthdays or perhaps Christmas. This is often the only way we will ever get to own a brand name perfume.

I too only end up with a fragrance such as these because my husband will buy me a bottle for an anniversary gift or a birthday gift. I am in love with Chanel No 5 and we all know it is a beautiful scent but very expensive. I just couldn't justify going and buying this for myself even though I love it.

Mind you it does last a long time and I need to only use a minute amount at any given time so I suppose in the end when you add up how much and how often you use cheap perfume maybe my Chanel is not that expensive. It is funny how a brand name perfume can really make you feel a million dollars compared to a cheap soapy smelling scent. And I do believe if you feel good then that contributes to how you feel about others.

These days you can find designer perfumes just about anywhere that sell cosmetics including pharmacies and department stores. This is of course a good thing for us fragrant lovers because these stores have to keep up with competition allowing us to be able to buy our favorite bottle of Chanel or Estee Lauder or Calvin Klein and so on at more competitive prices. A good idea is to look around and compare prices before you buy.

You can also shop online if this takes your fancy. Often you will be able to pick up amazing bargains this way. Obviously you will not have the pleasure of obtaining your product there and then, as you will have to wait for it to be shipped to you. There is something else you need to be aware of when shopping this way and that is make sure you do not get charged too much for shipping. Many people think that they are getting something cheap and by the time they pay for shipping it will have cost the same or more for the product compared to buying it locally.

Buying like this does make it hard if you do not know much about the perfume that you are ordering as you cannot smell a sample beforehand. But once you know what you want and you also have done your homework regarding prices then go for it. This way of shopping can be very helpful if you do not live close to shops.
